



Outgoing mail is being processed at a normal rate however there is an overabundance of it resulting in slow delivery. One external account was being used for spamming and was clogging the system. This Gmail account has been identified and has been blocked. Apparently this user configured his or her account to relay messages (authenticated) using our SMTP server. Previously sent messages are in the queue and will be delivered as such.

Due to recent performance problems with the Faculty/Staff GroupWise Post Office, a new Post Office has been created and about 100 accounts were moved it last week. We will be watching both PO’s closely for problems. We are looking for this to help performance for all Faculty/Staff users. If you have difficulties with your account please contact ITS.

This morning a small change was made to GroupWise WebAccess. When you go the http://gww.anderson.edu, instead of being redirected to https://gww.anderson.edu/gw/webacc, you will be redirected to https://gwwc.anderson.edu/gw/webacc. You will still be accessing the same server but the name has just changed a bit, notice it is ‘gwwC’ now. This has been done as a preliminary step to providing a second, redundant WebAccess server in the near future. If you currently have a shortcut or bookmark saved with the full path to ‘gww’ it will continue to work for a while, but once the new server is added to the mix it may no longer work. The best option is to create or modify your bookmark to point to http://gww.anderson.edu. This will allow for the correct redirect to happen.
Watch for more updates to the situation as we continue to strive to provide more reliable service.

As of 1:30 PM today, all student email accounts have been “unlocked”. We fully restored just over 700 accounts manually over the past several days. This afternoon, we restored functionality (no old mail) to the remaining 1500 accounts.
Email should be flowing properly again. If you continue to receive undeliverable error messages please refer to the instructions below to resolve the problem.

The available post office data has been restored but the database entries are not synchronized. We have a call into our vendor for further support. We can give no time table at this point but we are working as quickly and efficiently as possible to resolve this problem.

Due to the hardware failure, the Post Office data is unrecoverable. Therefore, the server is being rebuilt and the data restored from backup. We project to have the involved services restored late tomorrow.

Around 3:00 this afternoon, a hardware failure occured causing one of the GroupWise Student Post Offices to become unavailable. We are in the process of troubleshooting the failure. We are attempting to recover the data on the physical hard drives. If this is not possible we will attempt to restore the data from backup. If this is the case, there will be some data lost. The latest backup began Monday, January 12 at approximately noon and finished sometime today.

The new student email post office server is down to resolve a disk problem. It should be restored to fully functional by 4:00 PM, if not sooner.

We are in the process of making some changes we hope will alleviate some of the slowness that has been seen regarding GroupWise access recently. Some student mailboxes are being moved to a new post office of a different server. While this process is mostly transparent to the user, there are a couple things that you may see. The first of these is that your connection address may automatically change to st2008.anderson.edu from post.anderson.edu or aust.anderson.edu.
The second item may cause alarm, but hopefully this will help. During the time your mailbox is actually being moved you may not see some or all of your mail. This is temporary. Logout and wait about an hour and try again. Your mail should reappear.
